In Spirit & Truth…

This is one of those blogs that may get you stirred up, but hopefully in a good way. Disclaimer: it is not meant to be a preachy, know-it-all, “I’m right so you must be wrong” kind of way. Instead, it is purposeful, loving, and hopefully possessing a spirit of clarity. John 4:24 says… “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” Truth. Worship in truth. So very important. But the whole truth is only found in Jesus and His Word. As Christians, we either believe the whole truth or we don’t. We either believe in the spiritual realm or quite simply, we don’t. Bits and pieces are not where it’s at. You know the deal. We want to take some of God’s word to heart and then kind of ignore the parts we don’t care to absorb. Do we believe, really believe the entirety of His truth? The completeness of His Word? It’s chocked full of truth and freedom. But only if we allow it in our lives. Again, we believe it entirely or we don’t. It is not a fragmented gospel, it yields His truth from front to back. Let’s grasp it fully.

Psalm 145:18
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

He is near to all who call on Him in TRUTH. I guess lately, I’ve really been approaching His truth in a new way. I’m striving not to go into the gray zone. Like at all. I want no part of it. It’s black and white for me. When I say gray, I don’t mean we must be perfect and never fail, because we all will. But the gray I refer to is compromise. We all have our own convictions, so I am not pushing mine on anyone else. But hopefully we all have convictions. His Word is truth and has ALL of the answers. It is there to lead us, but we just have to desire to be led. It does not matter what your friends are doing or even what some christian leaders may agree with, agree with Jesus first! What we watch, listen to, and take part of should be pleasing. I think many have lost sight of this as folks want to believe in “evolving” Christianity.

Psalm 119:160
The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.

His beautiful Word never changes. Christianity was never meant to be modernized. Yet, so many Christians want to make it what they “feel” is relevant in our current world. Let me say this. Unbelievers need His complete truth in order to be set free. We are living in perilous times. People need to know His love and mercy but also His fervent Sovereignty. Loving others in truth is soul saving. Mamby pamby Christianity is not going to set captives free. But God’s love in truth most certainly will. Christianity is not a pretty package wrapped up in a bow for all to see. It’s not just the favor of God, but it is also living the truth of His Word. My youth pastor used to say.. “Going to church doesn’t make you a christian anymore than going to McDonald’s makes you a hamburger.” Of course, church is important but the real heart of the matter is the ‘matter of your heart’.

John 17:17
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

Sanctification. “The action of making or declaring something holy. The action or process of being freed from sin or purified.” Let me back up a bit. Compromise. Don’t let yourselves fall into the trap of compromise. It truly is dangerous, as it leads you from the straight path to a wide, destructive road. The inner dialogue sounds like “Oh that’s not bad”, “this ones doing it”, or “even christian leaders are ok with it”. Friends, sometimes the road we walk is lonely. Even if the path just has you and your Savior, it is enough. Everyone won’t always agree or desire all you do. You may have to go it alone. But you’re never alone, Jesus is there. Stick to your guns because it’s freeing. I’ll give an example. Halloween. When our son was younger, we were like should we let him dress up? So many christian families are OK with it. He loved costumes on the daily so one day wouldn’t make a difference. He was always in a superhero or Star Wars getup. We let him dress up a couple of years and took him to a couple of houses on October 31. But, friends, it did not sit well in my Spirit. Why? Because without getting into the meaning of this demonic holiday, I knew it was wrong. And the Holy Spirit was nudging me. I am not telling you all what is right for you nor am I taking a self righteous stance because that is simply wrong. Self righteousness is just as wrong as not living His truth. But I’m urging you to see just that, His truth. No judgement from me, just loving truth. I desire all that He has for us.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Breathed out by God, all scripture. ALL. The answers are all there my friends. My desire is for my son to know the truth and for the truth to set Him free, continuously. Not some truth, not only parts, but the whole. He has struggled at times because he cannot go here or there with friends. Or he’s not allowed to watch this or that. And as a parent, it’s hard. But I’m not going with easy if it hurts him. I’ll take the hard any day so that he learns and makes a stand. A stand for Christ. That’s the goal. At the end of the day, we are here to love God, love and live His Word, love others and reach souls. The way to do this is not by being perfect or never making mistakes. We will all fail. But, it’s by knowing His word and living it to the best of our ability. It is by loving in TRUTH. Always. Unapologetic truth.

This world is in a sad way. So much of the book of Revelation is coming to fruition. Let’s reach those around us. Change will come in spirit and in truth.

God Bless your souls.
